Saint John of Kronstadt was a mitred protopriest of the Russian Orthodox Church and the abbot of the Saint Andrew's Cathedral in Kronstadt. He was not only a preacher, but a religious writer, the church and social leader, representing right conservative monarchial views. Saint John died at the age of 80, in Kronstadt, on January 2, 1908 (December 20, 1907 by the old calendar). He is buried on the ground floor of the Convent of St. John of Rila, which he founded in December of 1902 on the Karpovka river in Saint Petersburg.
