February 9, 1896 is the day of the first championship on figure-skating in Yusupov garden of St. Petersburg
A German skater Gilbert Fuchs was announced the winner. A Russian sportsman Georgiy Sanders took the 3rd place out of four participants. The first championship was only meant for male single skaters — female figure-skating was included into the world championship program in 1902.
