Adopting the emblem of St. Petersburg

14 March, Saturday

On March 14, 1730 the coat of arms of St. Peterburg was adopted

This emblem is the oldest and the main official symbol of St. Petersburg. The coat of arms of Vatican was used as a prototype, since the tomb of St. Peter is allegedly placed there. The coat of arms has always been in use except for the period of 1917–1991 (the October Revolution – the Dissolution of the Soviet Union).
