On March 23, 1801 the emperor Paul I was killed in the Mikhailovsky Castle
The Emperor was murdered by members of a cabal, which included guard officers. At approximately 0:30 a.m. a group of officers stormed into the Emperor's bedroom, and he was mauled and strangled with a scarf during the fight. One of the reasons of the cabal was the capricious regimen of Paul I.
