The New Academy presents Timur Novikov’s heritage and holds exhibitions of his colleagues and followers
In 1988 the Free University Of Various Arts was founded by a worldwide known artist and publicist Timur Petrovich Novikov (1958-2002), a person, who had a major influence on the evolution of Russian art and culture in the late 20th century. In 1982 he started his own group, the “New Artists”, which turned into a whole current, and in 1989 he founded the "Neoacademism" art movement, which was in opposition to modernism and promoted preservation and revival of classical art. In 1993 on the base of the education institute called “the New Academy of Fine Arts” (located at “Pushlinskaya-10” squat) he opens the New Academy of Fine Arts museum. Today the Museum is an exposition and research centre representing the art by Timur Novikov and the artists of his circle.
