On January 21, 2018, the largest international tourism fair FITUR 2018 concluded its work.
The Fair FITUR 2018 was located in the largest exhibition centre of Spain capital, Madrid, called IFEMA FeriadeMadrid. St. Petersburg had two-storey exhibition stand with individual construction. City was presented as unique tourist destination, which hosts FIFA World Cup 2018. Tourism potential of a city was presented to guests by employees of St. Petersburg Committee for Tourism Development, St. Petersburg SBD Convention Bureau and St. Petersburg SBD City Tourist Information Bureau.
Passenger Port of St. Petersburg “Marine Façade” and St. Petersburg international airport “Pulkovo” representing air and sea gates of St. Petersburg were city key exhibitors. The leading companies of the Petersburg tourism industry acted as co-exhibitors.
During the fair a series of business meetings with international representatives of MICE industry and operators of the tourism industry took place at the stand of St. Petersburg. Within the framework of the meetings an international partnership in a vector of business development and event tourism in St. Petersburg was discussed.
Master classes on freestyle football from the fourfold champion of Russia and one of the world’s best freestyler Igor Oleynik were given to fair visitors. Official FIFA World Cup 2018 balls as well as souvenirs with symbols of St. Petersburg were drawn among spectators and active participants of master-classes. Also there was a performance of musicians playing on traditional Russian instruments.
On 19 January, 2018, Georgy Poltavchenko, the Governor of St. Petersburg, visited Madrid as the head of St. Petersburg delegation. Andrey Mushkarev, the Head of the Tourism Development Committee of St. Petersburg and Oleg Markov, Vice Governor of St. Petersburg were also included in delegation.
"St. Petersburg was presented at the highest level at the FITUR Fair," said Andrey Mushkarev. “During the main football championship we expect the arrival of a large stream of foreign visitors to St. Petersburg and many of them will visit our city for the first time. In addition, the vast majority of tourists during this period are football fans, who wants to support their team. Therefore, our task was presentation of Saint Petersburg as the Centre of highly attraction for professional athletes. The high attendance of the exhibition stand proves that we have succeeded."
FITUR Fair has been held since 1986 and is considered to be one of the biggest events of Spain tourism market. The event every year attracts more than 9.5 thousand participants and 107 thousand visitors from different regions of the world. The Fair is organized by the Company IFEMA, which is the main operator of Congress and exhibition events of the region. And also, FITUR is supported by the World Tourism Organization and the Spanish Ministry of Industry, Energy and Tourism.
