On April 5, a press conference dedicated to the development of gastronomic, business and event tourism was held in St. Petersburg. It was attended by the Chairman of the Committee for Tourism Development of St. Petersburg Andrey Mushkarev, Managing Director of the World Association of Chefs Societies Ragnar Fridrikssen and President of the National Association of Cooks of Russia Viktor Belyaev.
In 2020 in the Northern Capital of Russia will be held the Worldchefs Congress which is considered as one of city’s key events. It will gather about 2 thousand delegates from all over the world.
As Andrey Mushkarev said, “WACS is the most authoritative organization in the field of culinary tourism. In September 2016, thanks to the initiative of the Committee for Tourism Development of St. Petersburg, our city achieved the right to host the Worldchefs Congress in 2020 year. This is not only a great honor for us, but also an important element of the development of the industry of hospitality in St. Petersburg and Russia. Despite the growth in the number of restaurants, St. Petersburg and Russia are still poorly marked on the culinary map of Europe and the World. In particular, in our country there are no restaurants marked by the Michelin star. We have a long and active work which will give a serious impetus to the development of the domestic culinary industry. Preparation for the Congress will include various educational events, public relations and marketing actions."
Chairman reminded that currently in the city is going the IV St. Petersburg Restaurant Festival (1-30 April). This year the Festival is dedicated to the upcoming FIFA World Cup. The Restaurant Festival is attended by a record number of gastronomic establishments, but the organizers do not chase the number and improve the quality of participants, Mushkarev marked.
“During the preparation for the Worldchefs Congress 2020, we plan to hold a large number of events in St. Petersburg,” Ragnar Fridrikssen said, “Among them, there are many seminars for young chefs and events for the preparation of culinary judges. In addition, in 2019 in the city on the Neva will be held the European semifinal of the cook competition, and the winners of it will take part in the finals. The organization will also provide informational support to St. Petersburg as a city hosting the Worldchefs Congress 2020."
Victor Belyaev noted that the chefs from different regions of Russia are eagerly awaiting this grandiose event in the field of gastronomy, and they are wishing to become delegates to the Worldchefs Congress 2020.
Meanwhile, an inspectional visit with participation of World Association of Chefs' Societies and the National Association of Cooks of Russia representatives took place from 4 to 6 April 2018 in St. Petersburg. In its framework delegates estimated a city as a venue for holding events and get acquainted with the business and cultural opportunities of St. Petersburg.
