Russian Museum celebrates 125th anniversary in 2020
30 December 2019
In 2020, the Russian Museum celebrates a significant date: 125 years since its foundation.
It was Alexander III who made the decision on its foundation. Later, on April 25, 1895, Nikolai II signed a decree “On the establishment of a special establishment called the ‘Russian Museum of Emperor Alexander III’ and on the submission for this purpose of the Mikhailovsky Palace acquired to the treasury with all its outbuildings, services and a garden.” This day became the founding date of the country's first state museum of national fine art.
Because of the birthday, residents and guests of the Northern capital will be able to visit all the palaces of the Russian Museum free of charge on April 25, 2020.
During the year, festive events will be held at the sites of the museum complex.
