More than 10 million tourists visited St. Petersburg in 2019

Governor Alexander Beglov, who is on a working visit to Moscow, discussed the results of the tourist year and predictions for 2020 at the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation.
Last year, 10.4 million tourists visited the Northern capital. Out of this figure, more than 4.9 million are citizens of foreign countries; almost 5.5 million are residents of Russia.
Compared to 2018, the tourist flow increased by 26.8%. Experts associate that to the rise of direct flights from St. Petersburg to different cities of the world. 14 new flights were launched last year.
The number of tourists who specially come to the city for event tourism has increased. More than half a million tourists visited the city on New Year’s holiday.
The 23rd session of General Assembly of the World Tourism Organization influenced the growth of interest in St. Petersburg. The tourism potential of St. Petersburg was also widely represented at international exhibitions and roadshows.
Electronic visas for foreign guests were introduced from October 1, 2019. For 4 months, more than 112 thousand e-visas were issued.
