The broadcast is dedicated to the 180th anniversary of Pyotr Tchaikovsky.
The plot is based on the poem “Poltava” by Alexander Pushkin. The main part was performed by the soloist of the Mariinsky Theater Vladislav Sulimsky. Valery Gergiev became the musical director and conductor.
The performance of Ilya Shlepianov, which is taking place today at the Mariinsky Theater, is the fourth of six operas ever performed on this stage. It was created in 1950, and then renewed many times, being recognized as canonical. In June 2019, one of the largest classical music channels, Mezzo and Mezzo Live HD, broadcast a live opera from the Mariinsky Theater. This record, with a brilliant company of soloists, will be presented on May 7.
In the main parties: Vladislav Sulimsky (Mazepa), Maria Bayankina (Maria), Ekaterina Semenchuk (Lyubov), Sergey Semishkur (Andrey), Stanislav Trofimov (Kochubey).
