Supported by St. Petersburg Tourism Development Committee, the tourism industry organisations have got on the list of the system-forming organisations of the city for the first time. Large hotel enterprises such as Four Seasons Hotel Lion Palace St.Petersburg, AZIMUT Hotel Saint Petersburg, Original Sokos Hotel Olympia Garden, Solo Sokos Hotel Palace Bridge and Solo Sokos Hotel Vasilievsky were the first ones to be listed.
It was suggested by St. Petersburg Tourism Development Committee to include the hotel organisations on the list of the system-forming organisations of the city. The initiative was supported by the working group presided by vice-governor Yevgeniy Yelin.
Special criteria were developed for the Saint Petersburg hospitality industry organisations to allow them on the list: total revenue during a calendar year (no less than 850 million rub.), average staff number (no less than 175 employees) and necessary star-rating certificate availability. The standard criteria for entering the list of the system-forming organizations were much higher: total revenue had to be no less than 1 milliard rub. for accounting year and the number of employees had to reach 500.
“The hotel facilities of our city are the infrastructural basis of the Saint Petersburg and whole Russia’s modern tourism industry as well as a good work-place multiplier in hospitality industry. Only in 2019 over 300 thousand people in total were involved in the hospitality industry and related industries in the peak season and the general multiplicative contribution by the tourism industry in the city economy amounted to 378,6 milliard rub. With the consideration of the direct and indirect influences by tourism on several dozens of industries, the hotel industry of our city may become one of the drivers of the Northern Capital’s economy post-pandemic restoration. The accomplished work of including the hospitality industry organisations along with the largest urban planning organizations on the list of the system-forming ones confirms the importance of tourism industry and emphasises its significance in our city’s economy”, St. Petersburg Tourism Development Committee chairman Sergey Korneev commented.
As for October 2020, the list has already been entered on by organisations influencing the population employment and social stability in Saint Petersburg. Among those there are the city’s largest organisations such as PAO Izhorskiye zavody, OAO Metrostroy, AO Baltiysky zavod, SPb OAO Krasny, OOO Toyota Motor’s branch in Saint Petersburg as well as real estate developers, road repair organisations, pharmaceutical companies, transporters and other ones.
It is to be reminded that Saint Petersburg is a world’s recognised tourist center and one of the most demanded travel directions in Russia. In 2019-2020 a number of large-scale projects of international level were realised with the support of the city administration and the Government of Russia. Then record-setting economic numbers in the Saint Petersburg tourism industry were achieved.
