The event was organized on the initiative of the Saint Petersburg Committee for Tourism Development and was implemented absolutely free of charge by the participants in the tourism sector. The hospitality industry gave the city a new holiday, where the residents of Saint Petersburg could feel like guests in their hometown. A large-scale social action has become a symbol of the restart of the city's tourism industry, readiness to receive tourists.
The main objective of the competition is to introduce residents and guests of the city to a new tourist geography and a modern art form - public art. Therefore, to participate in the competition, it was required to make 10 colorful photos with installations of the project «33 signs», created by the team of the Central Exhibition Hall «Manezh» and placed in different parts of the historical center of Saint Petersburg. A prerequisite was a photo opposite the art object - the letter «T» in Telezhniypereulok, which was inaugurated on a significant day for the industry, September 27, 2020, and symbolizes the importance of tourism and Saint Petersburg itself - as the tourist capital of Russia.
According to the terms of the competition, using a random number generator, 10 winners were selected who won one of the gifts - accommodation in the Grand Hotel Europe, Helvetia, theater performance tickets, a certificate for the purchase of clothes in the Anna Verdi boutique, a certificate for going to a restaurant, a golf master class from the Peterhof golf club, bright accessories from the Central Exhibition Hall «Manezh»and souvenirs from Visit Petersburg.
Recall that the world-famous art photographer ArsenRevazov, who specializes in working with large-format analog cameras, opened the water navigation of Saint Petersburg in 2020 by shooting the sights of Saint Petersburg. The photographer's water route passed along the Fontanka, Moika and Neva. In the future, the frames will be used in a photo exhibition, as well as to promote Saint Petersburg in international tourist markets. Involving famous photographers for cooperation, Saint Petersburg Committee for Tourism Development is actively promoting and increasing the recognition of the Northern Capital at the international level.
The international holiday World Tourism Day is celebrated annually on September 27th. It was established by a resolution of the General Assembly of the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), approved in 1979 in the Spanish city of Torremolinos. The main goal of the holiday is to develop tourism and highlight its contribution to the world economy, as well as strengthen ties between countries. In Russia, World Tourism Day has been celebrated since 1983. Saint Petersburg is a recognized world tourist destination and one of the most demanded travel destinations in Russia. In 2019-2020, with the support of the city administration and the Government of the Russian Federation, a number of large-scale projects of the international level were implemented, record economic indicators for the city were achieved in the tourism industry.
