Forts of Kronstadt will be restored with the help of the state program of the Ministry of Culture

Governor Alexander Beglov announced this today on the program “Petersburg. A new look ”on TV channel 78, the press service of the head of the city reports.
In August 2020, the Alley of Heroes was opened - the first stage of the Museum and Historical Park "Island of Forts". Up to 10 thousand people visit the park every weekend. In addition, draft designs for the adaptation for tourist purposes of the forts "Alexander I", "Kronshlot" and "Peter I" were approved. They are included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. The restoration of these historical sites is included in the state program of the Ministry of Culture.
“Investments have already been found for 80% of the objects of the future“ Island of Forts ”, - said Alexander Beglov. Thanks to the project of creating a historical and tourist cluster in Kronstadt, many architectural monuments will be restored, dozens of hectares of empty territories of former military towns will be used, more than a thousand new jobs will appear for residents of Kronstadt.
The Governor also noted that the development of Kronstadt as a city-museum provides for the modernization of the transport infrastructure. Among the priority tasks are the construction of a new section of the Citadel highway and the pedestrian embankment, the reconstruction of the Citadel road and the overpass of the same name with its connection to the ring road, the reconstruction of the Kronstadt highway and its expansion to 4 lanes.
By agreement with the Ministry of Construction, federal funds will be used to reconstruct the junction of the Kronstadt highway with the ring road. In addition, a program for the restoration of the facades of residential buildings is being implemented in Kronstadt. In 2020, the facades of 30 houses will be overhauled. Of these, 22 buildings are cultural heritage sites.
