12 January 2021

The concert will be dedicated to waltz.

Waltz Evening concert will take place in Grand Hall of Saint Petersburg Academic Philharmonia on 15th of January. This is reported by the Committee for Culture of St. Petersburg.

The concert will feature works by Russian and foreign composers, written in three-beat size and related to a variety of genres: opera, ballet and dramatic art. They will be performed by the State Symphony Orchestra "Classics" conducted by Alexander Kantorov.

The program will include "Waltz of Snowflakes" by P. Tchaikovsky, waltz from D. Shostakovich's Jazz Suite, Concert Waltz by I. Dunaevsky, "Sad Waltz" by Sibelius, rarely performed waltzes by E. Waldteuffel and the second part of G. Berlioz's "Fantastic" symphony.

“Conductor and presenter Alexander Kantorov will tell about the difficult fate of the waltz, forced to make its way through the condemnation and prohibitions of society. It is noteworthy that it was in the Great Hall of the Philharmonic that the Maestro was awarded the title of "King of the Waltzes of St. Petersburg", which the conductor received from the hands of the composer Andrei Petrov. Staying true to this title, Alexander Kantorov continues to acquaint the Petersburg public with the best musical works of this genre, ”the committee said.
