This year, due to the adjustments made by the pandemic, the Red Bull Ice Cross Championship will be held in a new format. The entire championship is divided into four divisions: USA, Canada, Europe and Russia. Each division will host its own competitions, following which 32 best athletes will take part in the final stage and compete for the title of Champion of the season 2020-2021.
The ice track at the Igora resort, specially built for the stage of the Red Bull Ice Cross World Championship, is 40 meters longer than in 2020: its length is 340 meters. It is located near the Ice Palace, offering a beautiful view of the entire track. The track contains both technical elements and fast corners that are unforgiving. The height difference on the track is 35 meters. The ice track configuration includes five sharp turns, trampolines, and step-up and wall ride elements.
Last year, the best among men at the Russian stage of the Red Bull Ice Cross World Championship at the Igora resort was Austrian Luca Dallago. The main contender for the Champion title among Russian riders, Dmitry Murlychkin, was forced to miss the stage due to injury, but this year he seriously intends to join the fight for the victory and the champion title.
The sporting weekend will culminate in the individual finals on the evening of Saturday 30 January. The whole day at the Igora resort for fans of winter sports will be held various master classes, contests, entertainment for children and adults. Alpine skiing and tubing trails, a curling ground, an ice skating arena will also be available, and home cooking awaits guests in the resort's cafes and restaurants.
The competition starts on January 30 at 17.00. The entrance is free for spectators.
