The competition "Masters of hospitality" found a response among citizens of St. Petersburg

Hundreds of residents of the Northern capital submitted applications for participation in the competition improving domestic tourism. Several projects were submitted by the St. Petersburg State Budgetary Institution “City Tourist Information Bureau” subordinate to the Committee for Tourism Development of St. Petersburg.

Until January 31, everyone could take part in the second season of the All-Russian competition "Masters of Hospitality" - one of the projects of the presidential platform "Russia - the Land of Opportunities". More than 300 applications received by the organizers of the competition were sent by citizens of St. Petersburg.

According to Aleksey Agafonov, Deputy Director General of the Russia - Country of Opportunities ANO, a total of 29,561 registration applications were received, which is one third more than last year. “This once again confirms the interest of representatives of the hospitality industry in the competition, the desire to develop tourism in Russia,” notes Agafonov.

Residents of 85 regions and 624 cities will participate in the competition. More applications were received from the Stavropol Territory, Novosibirsk and Ulyanovsk regions. The youngest participant is 18 years old and the oldest is 79 years old.

Among those wishing to participate in the All-Russian competition and "City Tourist Information Bureau", subordinate to the Committee for the Development of Tourism of St. Petersburg. In particular, the bureau's specialists have developed such creative projects as the transformation of Malaya Sadovaya Street into a musical one, as well as the creation of a tourist information office under the Visit Petersburg brand, which will be located on the water.

To participate in the intramural semifinals and finals, all applicants will soon need to undergo remote testing.

All-Russian professional competition "Masters of Hospitality" started on November 13, 2019. Its goal is to unleash the potential of professionals, form new traditions, increase service standards and the prestige of professions in the fields of tourism and hospitality. During the competition, in addition to the knowledge and competencies of the participants, their author's projects in the field of hospitality are evaluated. The best of them receive support and are implemented in the regions of Russia.

The competition "Masters of Hospitality" is implemented within the framework of the federal project "Social elevators for everyone" of the national project "Education".

According to the Committee for the Development of Tourism of St. Petersburg, tourism is a driver of economic development in St. Petersburg and shows outstripping growth. In 2019 alone, tourists spent 376.8 billion rubles in our city. The contribution of tourism to the economy amounted to 4.4% of the GRP. Tourism is 12% of all exports of St. Petersburg and 44.5% of its non-energy non-raw materials exports, while tourism is the most environmentally friendly export. The employment of the population in the hospitality industry in the normal season is more than 107 thousand people, in the high season this figure increases to 300 thousand, and in total in tourism and related industries during the peak period, up to 500 thousand people are involved, which is 9.5% of the entire population of the city. Note that in 2019, St. Petersburg was visited by 10.4 million tourists, which is 26.8% higher than the same indicator in 2018.
