Russia’s Silver Necklace: 11 ideas on how to spend the February holidays

The interregional project named «Russia’s Silver Necklace» invites you to visit the North-West of Russia in these long February holidays. Regional tourist information centers have prepared a number of interesting events and activities for the holidays.

Find out in which region you can see an aircraft carrier, visit the tropics in winter, take a look at military equipment, participate in ski races or reenactments of three wars.

Saint Petersburg

  • Tango masterpieces under the dome of the atmospheric Annenkirche

On February 21 and 22 the mysterious Annenkirche, one of the most atmospheric places of Saint Petersburg, will host the concerts «Piazzolla. Tango Colours». The music will be played in the darkness with live paintings projected onto the walls using the Ebru technique.

  • Historical reenactment of three wars in Saint Petersburg

On February 23 at 11:00 a large-scale historical reenactment of episodes of the 1812 Patriotic War, the First World War and the Great Patriotic War will take place in Yekateringof Park. Guests of this event will see staging of gas and bayonet attacks, the work of medics on the battlefield, the actions of foot guards and so on.

On February 23 you can also visit the Military Historical Museum of Artillery, Engineer and Signal Corps free of charge.

Leningrad oblast


On February 21, from 13.00 to 15.00, an interactive program will be held at the Joy Farm (Vyborgsky district). Guests will be able to take part in games for men, youthful amusements and competitions for true heroes, try «ax porridge» with fragrant tea and ride on inner tubes in snow.

On February 22, at 16:00, Sergei Mazurenko, an actor, singer, composer and musician, will perform a concert in the Maryino Estate (Andrianovo village). Sergei Mazurenko’s perfect guitar skills, artistry, charm and phenomenal voice will make the evening unforgettable.

Kaliningrad oblast

  • «Soldier Day» at the Kaup Viking Village

On February 23, the Kaup Viking Village (Romanovo village) invites you to celebrate the Defender of the Fatherland Day and immerse into the atmosphere of the Viking Age. The program includes: the early medieval martial art, Viking battles, archer performances, medieval dance, a photo session with Vikings and much more!

Novgorod oblast

  • Theatrical program "Grand Prince's  glorious city. Alexander Nevsky"

On February 22, the Red Izba Tourism Development Centre invites you to attend a new and unique theatrical program commemorating the glory and achievements of Alexander Nevsky. During the course of a two-hour program, visitors will join authentic Novgorod games and take a walk along Yaroslav's Court and the Novgorod Kremlin together with medieval characters.

  • Big festival of winter sports "ICE VALDAICE".

Valday in February is a real wintry wonderland, so we invite you to spend these holidays in a snowy atmosphere. The Valday Ski Race will take place on February 22, and the winter trail marathon on Lake Valday is scheduled for February 23. Guests of the festival will also enjoy dog sledding and canicross, an ice-hole for dipping and a sauna at the finish line.

Murmansk oblast

  • Theatrical promenade "MURMANSK 4145"

On February 22 and 23, the Arctic theatre will hold theatrical promenades which don't involve actors, but at the same time the "actors" - streets, houses, crossroads and, of course, townspeople - will be all around you. The viewer, who is also a participant, listens to headphones while following the director's script and the history of the city, which covers the period of the Great Patriotic War.

From February 17 to February 21, Murmansk and the Norwegian city of Kirkenes will be connected by light signals. You can witness the experiment from 5 p.m. till 10 p.m. near the Murmansk Regional Scientific Library.

Vologda oblast

During the long weekend in February, the museums of the Vologda region offer a variety of excursion programs, exhibitions and workshop sessions. On February 21-23, a theatrical program will be organized for visitors of the Vologda Museum-Reserve at the exhibition site "City. Human. War", excursions "A Journey through the Vologda land" and "Treasures of Vologda Museums" will take place. The art department will host a workshop "The Merry Family". The Kirillo-Belozersky Museum-Reserve (the town of Kirillov) has prepared a cultural program with interactive excursions for the guests. The Cherepovets Museum of the Metallurgical Industry invites you to new master classes in string art.

Pskov oblast

Pskov’s museum invites visitors to attend an excursion and to know more about the exposition «Pskov Region in the years of the Great Patriotic War». The exposition is dedicated the history of the Region in 1941-1945. On the February, 23 nearby the Red Army’s victories obelisk there will be a parade of the Pskov’s garrison.

  • Winter sports Fest - Karelia Ski Fest 5.0

February, 22-23 make a ski- trip to the capital of Karelia. Bring more bright color of your emotions to white karelian winter. The program of the Fest includes ski RussiaLoppet marathons, 3km and 500 m races for children, races with dogs and on finish sledges.

Archangelsk oblast

Motor, ice and speed: February, 21 in Velsk takes place one of the largest events – Ice Races Pomorie Cup. Teams from more than 25 regions of Russia will take part in the competition. Participants drive autos of different types but with the engine volumes 1620 sm3, snow tires 1,5 cm and 4,5 cm.
