At the initial stage of the programme, flights are carried out four times a week: on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays. At the end of April, the frequency of flights will increase with another flight on Saturdays. In May, Rossiya flights in this direction will become daily. The first flight showed great demand for this direction among the residents of Dagestan. Despite the non-working day, the economy class in the direction from Makhachkala was 96% full.
The capital of Dagestan, Makhachkala, is a city by the sea, a city at the foot of the mountains, the largest metropolis in the Caucasus, with more than a million inhabitants. In 2021, due to the increased interest of residents of the country in recreation inside Russia, Dagestan opens up new tourism opportunities, actively developing this industry. An exclusive tourist product has been developed in the republic, which will allow guests to get acquainted with the history, culture, traditions and customs of Dagestan, walk along unique tourist routes and visit places with ancient history.
“As one of the largest air carriers in Russia and reputable aviation players in the tourism market, the airline is trying to open new bright and promising destinations for the residents of our vast country. From this position, Makhachkala is a promising direction for both Petersburgers and guests of the northern capital. Rossiya Airlines is a carrier for active entrepreneurs and travellers, offering services at affordable prices in the business and economy class. The occupancy of the first flights proves the demand for this interregional flight,” said the official representative of the airline Sergey Starikov at the solemn meeting ceremony of the aircraft.
“The launch by Rossiya Airlines of a direct flight between Makhachkala and St. Petersburg is good news for the residents of the Republic of Dagestan and the entire North-West of Russia,” commented Sergey Korneev, Chairman of the St. Petersburg Committee for Tourism Development. “We hope that Petersburgers will not fail to take advantage of the new direct flight, and for the residents of Dagestan this is a great opportunity to visit St. Petersburg and find a thousand reasons to come back here again and again.”
“The launch of the new flight will allow the residents of Dagestan and the northern capital of our country to get better acquainted with the amazing sights, with the history, culture and traditions of our regions. Most importantly, this event will contribute to the development of domestic tourism. At the end of 2020, more than 840 thousand people visited Dagestan. In 2021, an increase in incoming tourists is expected by 20-30% and by the end of the year may exceed a million people. Those wishing to travel to Dagestan can use the services of large federal tour operators or contact any of the 62 regional tour operators,” said Rasul Ibragimov, Acting Minister for Tourism and Folk Arts of the Republic of Dagestan.
“In Dagestan, systematic work to attract the tourist flow is underway. We are glad to welcome Rossiya Airlines with its new flight direction: St. Petersburg-Makhachkala. Today's flight has proved the timeliness of its opening and the relevance of this direction since the load is more than 90% for arrival and departure," says Arsen Pirmagomedov, General Director of Makhachkala Airport.
Today, the republic is actively working on the creation of year-round tourist facilities, which will significantly broaden the tourism season in Dagestan and offer interesting options for recreation even in winter. It is planned to create five tourist clusters in the Republic: Seaside, Mountain, Piedmont, Derbent and the Achikol lakes zone for hunting and fishing.
The Republic of Dagestan occupies a special place in the geography of Rossiya Airlines flights: in addition to flights to Makhachkala from St. Petersburg, the company plans to open flights from Moscow at the end of April.
