St. Petersburg and Republika Srpska strengthen tourist ties

On Thursday, 15th of April, an online meeting of St. Petersburg and the Republika Srpska (part of Bosnia and Herzegovina) tourist organizations representatives was held. The event was organized by St. Petersburg State Budgetary Institution "City Tourist Information Bureau" and the Republic of Srpska Tourist Organization with the assistance of the Representative Office of the Republic of Srpska in the Russian Federation and the Committee for External Relations of St. Petersburg.

According to Nikita Zhiltsov, Deputy General Director of GTIB, St. Petersburg has been cooperating with the Republic of Srpska in tourism for many years and, despite the pandemic, intends to further expanding and deepening of these relations.

Tiyana Rosic, the Republic of Srpska Tourism Organization Representative, expressed the hope for strengthening cooperation between tourism organizations of both regions, since both sides are interested in receiving and sending tourists. According to Rosic, Russia as a tourist destination is the first choice for citizens of the Republic of Srpska.

Private companies from the Republika Srpska and St. Petersburg presented their capabilities at the meeting. The strengthening of ties is facilitated by a visa-free regime for Russians when entering Bosnia and Herzegovina, which includes the Republika Srpska. The meeting participants noted that if pandemic restrictions are lifted, the mutual tourist flow will quickly recover, since the regions are interesting to each other from the point of view of tourism. For the citizens of the Republika Srpska, St. Petersburg is interesting as an architectural gem on the banks of the Neva, and for the Russians, the Republika Srpska is able to attract its unique nature and landscapes. Indeed, the only preserved relic forest in Europe and the deepest canyon in the Old World are located in this country.

Also, the Center for Health and Tourism "Bania Vruchitsa", a medical resort with a complex of 4 hotels for 1000 places, the Olympic Center "Jahorina", which created ideal conditions for ski tourism, and the ethno-village Stanisici, which annually receives about 1 million tourists a year promoted themselves.

Yulia Zhguleva, a representative of the St. Petersburg Agency for Medical Tourism, announced the possibility of visiting the city on the Neva for the purpose of treatment, and the representative of the Republika Srpska in St. Petersburg, Marijana Oparnitsa, shared her experience in organizing such tours.
