Let's celebrate the City Day with jazz: on May 27, Denis Matsuev will give a jazz gala concert
19 April 2021
On May 27, St. Petersburg's birthday, a jazz marathon will take place at the Oktyabrsky Big Concert Hall - a big two-hour music festival led by the legendary Russian pianist Denis Matsuev. The concert will delight fans of improvisation and syncopation - the musicians will play their favorite tunes and variations of immortal hits.
Maestro Matsuev will perform well-known jazz compositions with his inherent depth and virtuosity. Friends - Andrey Ivanov (double bass) and Alexander Zinger (drums) will help the "king of the piano" to create a special atmosphere. This year one more unique musician will appear on the stage of the Oktyabrsky Big Concert Hall (BKZ) - wind instruments player Arkady Shilkpoper, who plays the French horn and the Alpenhorn.
Young stars of the jazz stage - vocalist Yaroslava Simonova and balalaika player Anastasia Tyurina, regular participants in Denis Matsuev's concerts, will perform with new works.
15-year-old Yaroslava is a distinctive pianist, singer and composer, winner of the RadioJazz 2016 award, winner of the All-Russian contest of young talents "Blue Bird" in 2018. Yaroslava Simonova combines bright vocals, jazz intuition, charm and a great sense of rhythm.
10-year-old Anastasia Tyurina, born in the city of Tambov, is the winner of all-Russian and international contests. Nastya won the Blue Bird competition, performed with Denis Matsuev at various times, gives dozens of concerts a year and conquers audiences all over the world.
The jazz program will be traditionally performed at the Oktyabrsky Big Concert Hall (6 Ligovsky Prospekt). For maestro Matsuev and his friends-musicians, the performance is expected to be exceptional, especially after a long break.
“We will get together again, as we do every year in St. Petersburg! Last year extremely surprised all of us and influenced our everyday habits, but did not change the most important thing - our love for music! We keep on playing classics and jazz: we improvise, create, play together, light up the stars. And a live meeting with the audience is the most important reward for me! I am really looking forward to this concert! We'll set up a festive mood - the mood of music and life. I feel like everything will work out! " - says Denis Matsuev.
The Honoured Artist of Russia Denis Matsuev is a Russian pianist whose engagements are scheduled for several seasons ahead. Matsuev is a virtuoso, educated at the conservatory, and performing the most difficult classical works, but jazz is his little weakness, as he has repeatedly admitted. Each of his jazz concerts is an enchanting musical spectacle with the participation of several young and experienced musicians. Despite hundreds of concerts around the world, Denis Matsuev demonstrates his premiere programs unalterably in Russia.
