The event attracted with the active assistance of the St. Petersburg Convention Bureau, the Committee for tourism development and a participant in the city ambassador program - director of the Higher School of Theoretical Mechanics of Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University, Krivtsov Anton Miroslavovich.
As a result of the successful presentation concerning congress and exhibition opportunities of the Northern Capital, St. Petersburg took the lead, having gained 83% of the votes before the Russian National Committee for Theoretical and Applied Mechanics and bypassing Krasnoyarsk. This event is held every four years with the support of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation. Previous congresses were held in Moscow, Nizhny Novgorod and Kazan.
The event will be attended by scientists and representatives of organizations that play a significant role in the development of advanced directions in the fields of theoretical and applied mechanics and related sciences.
The St. Petersburg Ambassador Program has been operating since December 2018 in order to attract opinion leaders to participate in competitions for international events. There are currently 28 leading academic, medical and business leaders who work closely with the Bureau and Committee for tourism development to attract and host national and international conferences and events in the city, and also play a fundamental role in adding to the destination's reputation and ranking. Ambassadors are professionals who are renowned in their field (higher education, science, medicine or economics) and are active members of national or international associations, institutions and bodies.
The Program was initiated and developed in 2018 by the Convention Bureau. It stands to mention, that the Northern Capital became the first city in Russia to launch this strategically significant program. Through the ambassadors, 22 applications were submitted and 13 congress and exhibition events were attracted - 3 took place, the rest will be held in the period from 2021 to 2028. There is a small forecast that about 19000 people will visit the city as part of these events, contributing more than 2.4 billion rubles to the economy of the Northern capital. Experts have already attracted such major events to the city: the International Conference on Space Exploration - GLEX 2021, the International Conference of Planetariums IPS 2022, the International Congress of Cognitive-Behavioral Psychotherapy ICCP 2023, the International Geological Congress IGC 2028 and others.
