The 189th season starts at the Mikhailovsky Theater

31 August 2021

The season will open with the premiere of Rodion Shchedrin's ballet “The Little Humpbacked Horse”.

The debut of "The Little Hunchback Horse" ballet will take place on 2 and 3, 17 and 18 September. The performance will open a new, 189th season at the Mikhailovsky Theater. This was reported by the St. Petersburg Committee for Culture.

"Our most beloved audience is children, and in the season, which will be an anniversary for me as the theater's artistic director, I asked to make a performance for family viewing. It comes out at the right time, when, by the decision of the President and the government, the Pushkinskaya Card program starts working. This is a completely unprecedented decision: teenagers and young people, all those between 14 and 22 years old, will receive a subsidy to attend cultural events. I really hope that this audience will become our main spectator," Vladimir Kekhman, Artistic Director of the Mikhailovsky Theater, is quoted as saying.

It is also noted that multimedia projections will become an important component of the performance. Multimedia director Gleb Filshtinsky will combine traditional theatrical space with the virtual one and complement the fairy-tale story with bright digital effects.
