The 18th century passion for Chinese culture revealed itself not only in garden architecture, but also in the design of the  five New Garden bridges across Krestovy Chanel.

The Dragon Bridge, named "the bridge with monstrous figures" in the 18th century documents, was designed by Charles Cameroon on the alley, leading from the palace to the menagerie. The bridge is decorated with four expressive winged dragon figures, mounted on granite pedestals. Original sculptures, carved from limestone, were replaced with iron-cast dragons, designed by I. Schwarz in 1860.
