28 June 2021

In St. Petersburg, due to the pandemic, the ability to view the holiday of graduates offline was limited. However, this did not become an obstacle for viewers from all over the world.

The online show of the graduates' holiday on the official tourist portal of St. Petersburg took place for the second time. For the first time, the opportunity to watch a holiday online at Visit Petersburg appeared in 2020. The Committee for the Development of Tourism of St. Petersburg decided to provide everyone with the opportunity, even though online, to visit St. Petersburg and plunge into the atmosphere of this unique event.

For the first time, the broadcast on the portal attracted an audience from more than 30 countries. It was decided to give everyone a similar opportunity in 2021. So, on June 25 at 22:00 it was possible to follow the grandiose performance on the pages of the city's official tourist portal, as well as in the VKontakte group of the same name.

This time, thanks to the assistance of partners, the broadcast was able to gather viewers from 87 countries of the world. Support for the broadcast on the city's tourist portal through links on their resources was provided by Rosturizm, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Rossotrudnichestvo, the Moscow Tourism Committee, the Tourist Information Centers of Russia, foreign offices of Visit Petersburg and other structures.

The top 10 countries in terms of views of the "Scarlet Sails" live broadcast on the tourist city portal Visit Petersburg include:

  • Russia
  • Belgium
  • USA
  • Belarus
  • Germany
  • Italy
  • Great Britain
  • Ukraine
  • France
  • Kazakhstan

In addition, during the holiday, the Tourism Development Committee and the Euronews television channel organized the shooting of the best moments of the show for further use in the information campaign of St. Petersburg on the channel.

Due to the restrictions on international travel in the world caused by the pandemic, online broadcasts and television coverage provide an opportunity to witness the best world events in real time, said Sergei Korneev, chairman of the St. Petersburg Tourism Development Committee.

"Along with other world-scale events held in the city on the Neva, "Scarlet Sails" act as a bright lighthouse for travelers and bring St. Petersburg international fame. And we hope that we will be able to maintain this degree of interest in the Northern capital in the future. And after that as the pandemic begins to weaken and the borders in the world begin to open, tourists from different countries will make an unequivocal decision where to travel, knowing in which city they will be expected”, said Sergey Korneev.

We would like to remind that “Scarlet Sails” is the only event in Russia that was included in the register of world event tourism. And last year's alumni holiday "Scarlet Sails - 2020" won four nominations at the 11th international award in the event industry, the Global Eventex Awards. The show was traditionally organized by Bank "Russia", "Fifth Channel" and the Government of St. Petersburg.
