The works presented at the exhibition were created by students and graduates of higher and secondary professional art educational institutions, members of creative unions and artistic associations of St. Petersburg. The main challenges of the exposition are visual research of the archetypes’ influence of Russian culture in general and the image of Alexander Nevsky in particular on public consciousness, as well as highlighting the continuity of generations in the development of modern art culture and innovation of the masters of the 21st century.
The main semantic concept of the exhibition - "Archetype" opens up scope for creative interpretations. In their works artists reflect on the themes of Russian history, culture and its modern redefining: from historical places’ landscapes to conceptual works related, among other things, to folk culture or iconic trends in Russian art from antiquity to the 20th century and the present. The authors of the works were inspired by a wide range of themes and images: from ancient Russian icon painting to the period of the Russian avant-garde, from the classical academic school to modern trends in the visual arts.
The curatorial staff of the exhibition managed to collect not a portrait gallery, but different and diverse works that show how contemporary artists work with the heritage of previous generations and interpret the very concept of an archetype.
The exhibition will last until July 25, 2021. Free admission.
