Passage and Dostoevsky’s “Crocodile”

Passage Shopping Center first opened its doors in May 1848. Contemporaries were amazed by the three-story luxurious galleries shining with dazzling light under the 180-meter transparent roof — the first example of such a large-scale glass cover in St. Petersburg.

The part of the building facing Italianskaya Street housed a concert hall, where famous writers like N.A. Nekrasov, F.M. Dostoevsky and I.S. Turgenev took the stage. The plotline of Dostoevsky’s short story “The Crocodile. An Extraordinary Incident” unfolds within the walls of the shopping center.

The New Year’s fair in Passage gives you the opportunity to not only buy holiday gifts, but also help save a child’s life. Find a kiosk with the Alyosha charity fund logo to the right of the fair’s main entrance. Give donations and choose your memorable gifts. All collected funds will be applied to saving children’s lives.
