The Gorbov’s Apartment House
Mira ul., 10
Apartment house in eclectic style on Avstriyskaya (Austrian) square
The site on which the building stands was acquired by honorary citizen Mikhail Gorbov in 1901.
In 1903 an apartment house was built here to the project of architect Vasily Schaub. It was decorated in an eclectic style with Baroque features, the facade was decorated with stucco, sculptural elements and tents. At the corner of the house there is a tower with a multi-tiered dome and a high spire.
Gorbov's apartment house organically complemented the ensemble of octagonal Austrian Square on the Petrogradskaya side island. It has five floors, and an attic which was added in the 2000s. In 1907, the house received an Honorary Diploma at the city facade competition. In the same year, popular writer Leonid Andreev rented an apartment here. Now the building remains a residential apartment building.
In April 2023, the Committee for the State Inspection and Protection of Historic and Cultural Monuments (KGIOP) recognized the Gorbov’s House as an object of cultural heritage of regional significance.
