The Catherine Park (formerly Soviet Park) in Kronstadt is located in the central part of the city, running from the Gostiny Dvor along the Obvodny Canal and Sovetskaya Street past the Naval Nikolsky Cathedral.

The park was developed between 1839 and 1843. Traditionally, it is famous for its sculptures and monuments to seafarers who made Russia famous, such as Admiral F.F. Bellingshausen, who discovered the Antarctic continent and founded the park (installed in 1870). The park also contains a memorial sign on the site of the destroyed St. Andrew's Cathedral, a monument to P.L. Kapitsa, a physicist and native of Kronstadt. The first lighting in the park appeared in Soviet times, in 1966.

Since September 2017, the territory of the walking alley of ancient trees with a total area of 2.40 hectares has been illuminated by 45 energy-efficient LED lamps on cast-iron supports. The outdoor lighting network is made of a cable in the ground with a length of 1.8 km. The total capacity of the installation is only 2.9 kW. During the construction and installation works, which were carried out in the summer, 35 floor lamps with sodium light sources with a total power 1.2 times greater than the existing ones were dismantled. The place has become even more attractive for leisurely strolls in the evening. During the day, the stylized lanterns of the city square harmonize with the houses of past centuries along Sovetskaya Street. Sovetskaya Street begins from Komsomola Street and stretches along the Obvodny Canal to Lenin Avenue. Since the 18th century, the street was called Ofitserskaya, since there was a complex of buildings for the employees of the Main Admiralty, which was supposed to be moved here from St. Petersburg. Around 1834, the street began to be called Ekaterininskaya. Ekaterininsky Park stretches along the entire street, and the 19th century buildings are located only on one side and are preserved as historical. At the end of the 20th century, the outdated lighting equipment was dismantled.

Today, one of the central streets of Kronstadt is illuminated by more than 60 light sources with a comfortable and pleasant for the eyes warm white color. In addition to lanterns, Sovetskaya Street is decorated with artistic lighting. The facades of buildings along Sovetskaya Street acquire a unique look in the evening. 617 energy-efficient LED lamps in the dark emphasize all the advantages of the 19th century buildings.
