The Herbarium of St. Petersburg State University is one of the oldest in Russia and is included in all catalogues and summaries of the Herbariums of the World (acronym LECB).
It dates back to the moment G. P. Bongard was invited to work at the University to read botanical courses in 1823. It contains about a million storage objects (mostly herbarium specimens). R. Brendel's botanical models (1897) are stored separately. It is located in a building built in 1870.
