From 1900 until the end of the XX century, the Mariinsky Theatre’s artists worked in the building on Pisarev Street; many of the unique decorations can still be seen on the theatre’s stage.

In 2003, a fire completely destroyed the workshops, and in 2006, the Mariinsky Theatre Concert Hall opened in this place — with excellent acoustics (the world-famous specialist Yasuhisa Toyota was responsible for it) and a multifunctional transformable stage. In 2009, an organ was brought here — a French instrument from the company "Alfred Kern and Sons". The concert hall is half the size of the Mariinsky — 1,100 seats, by Gergiev's standards it is a chamber venue where experiments and deviations from the classical program of the theater are allowed. Jazz can be played in this hall, children's plays are staged here, and silent films with live musicians are even shown. And the spacious foyer has enough space for regular exhibitions.
