A burial site of victims of the February Revolution of 1917

The monument was designed by architect L. V. Rudnev in 1919. The memorial is represented by granite blocks with the inscribed lists of victims of urban combats for the power of Soviets or the Civil War. The passages between them divide the Field of Mars into two parts.  In the middle of the mass graves an eternal flame was lit, it first appeared there in 1957. Epitaphs written by People’s Commissar of Education A. V. Lunacharsky are engraved on eight corner plates.

In tsarist times, military parades and festivities took place on the Field of Mars and during the Soviet era this place turned into a kind of pantheon. Today it is not only an architectural, but also a park complex that attracts residents and guests of St. Petersburg. This is a unique recreation area where one can feel the atmosphere of the bygone era with its various and bright events. From here one can enjoy a beautiful view of the Mikhailovsky Castle and the Trinity Bridge, near there is the Summer garden and the Church of the Saviour on Spilled Blood.

Such a variety of landmarks around makes the Field of Mars a popular place for friendly and romantic meetings, as well as for starting sightseeing tours.
