A modern museum in the heart of Saint Petersburg acquaints its visitors with the history of the monetary system in Russia from ancient times to the modern days

The Museum is located on the territory of Peter and Paul Fortress near Golovkin Bastion in the historical building of Anninskiy Cavalier, named after the Russian Empress Anna Ioanovna.


On the first floor visitors can see unique coins, special equipment for making money, rare bonistics items, the first Russian paper money – banknotes, state credit and treasury notes and more. On the second floor of the exhibition visitors can see exhibits and items displaying non- standard ways of the money use. For example, coins used as decorative elements for clothes and different ornaments.


Among unique exhibits on display are: The gold giant coin – the biggest and the heaviest commemorating coin. It weighs 5 kg.   An amazing art-object – a composition with the image of a skyscraper made of coins value one ruble each.
