Museum of the History of Saint Petersburg State University
Universitetskaya nab., 7–9
The idea of creating a museum arose back in the 1930s. During the evacuation of the University during the Great Patriotic War, in Saratov, a group of historians led by the Dean of the Faculty of History V. V. Mavrodin continued to work on the history of the University and collect materials for the future museum. In the fall of 1944, after the University returned from Saratov, a new large exhibition on the history of the University was opened. It was decided to "reorganize the exhibition into a permanent museum." Since then, the museum has preserved, studied and popularized the memory of the three-century history of the University.
The Museum's collections include original documents and photographs, instruments and teaching aids, books, works of art and memorabilia of outstanding scientists, awards and gifts to the University.
