One of the first memorial museums patronized by the Russian Academy of Arts
I.E. Repin Mansion-Museum «The Penates» is located in 45 km from Saint-Petersburg, in the settlement Repino (earlier Kuokkala) on the coast of the Gulf of Finland. The mansion was built according to the plans of the artist. Here the artist had lived his last 30 years till he died and was buried. After his death the heirs assigned The Penates to the Academy of Arts and in 1940 the memorial museum was established in the mansion.
The visitors can see the artist’s living and working rooms, the interior of which characterizes not only the owner of the mansion but also the way of the life of the time. The main part of the exhibition - the paintings. Sketches, drawings, paintings, graphics and sculptures made by I.Repin are on display in the Museum. In the Penates he artist created his major historical masterpieces, paintings on the Gospels and contemporary life paintings. Some famous masterpieces and numerous portraits are available for the visitors in the Museum.
Beyond the Mansion the guests can also see the memorial park and its surroundings which inspired many of the Russian artists and writers with its beauty. Temporary exhibitions dedicated to the artist’s life and art take place regularly in addition to the permanent exhibitions in I.E. Repin Mansion-Museum «The Penates».
