Monument–Bust To V.A. Zhukovskiy
Admiralteiskiy pr., 1
Vasiliy Andreevich Zhukovskiy – one of the founders of Romanticism in Russian poetry. He is also known as the author of the words of the national anthem «God Save the Tsar». He played a special role in the social and political life of the country, being the mentor of the Emperor Alexander II. The bronze bust in his honor is installed in a very romantic place of St. Petersburg - Alexander Garden.
The authors began to create the monument in 1883, on the eve of the 100th anniversary of the poet's birth. The grand opening took place on June 4, 1887. The bust monument, cast at the Moran factory, was installed on a granite pedestal and the first romantic of Russia is thoughtfully looking at the Palace Square from there.
In order to achieve portrait similarity, the authors of the composition – architect A. Lytkin and sculptor V. Kreitan – focused on a cast made during Zhukovsky's lifetime, as well as on a portrait by the German artist Gildbrant.
