On July 4, 1832, the Zoological Museum of the Russian Academy of Sciences was founded in St. Petersburg.
The Zoological Museum of the Zoological Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences is based on the zoological collections of the Natural Cabinet of the Kunstkamera. The collection of various types of animals presented in the Zoological Museum of the Russian Academy of Sciences numbers approximately 30,000 exhibits and is one of the three largest in the world.
