Church of the Holy Great Martyr George the Victorious in Kupchino
Slavy pr., 45
A church dedicated to the patron saint of Russian soldiers, the Holy Great Martyr George the Victorious
A two-story, three-domed church was erected in the Internationalists Park near the monument dedicated to internationalist soldiers who died in Afghanistan in 1979-1988. The first service took place in 1999, shortly after it the church was consecrated by the blessing of His Eminence, Metropolitan of St. Petersburg and Ladoga Vladimir.
A Sunday school for children and adults is opened at the church. The Law of God, the Holy Scriptures of the New Testament, Liturgics, and Catechism are studied there. On weekends, there is a family and Orthodox youth club, where discussions on current topics, viewing and discussion of movies take place. Besides, missionary trips are organized. An integral part of daily divine services is the choir that consist of not only soloists, but also young singers who constantly improve their skills. On holidays, the church is often overcrowded, so a system for broadcasting services was created recently.
Residents of the area actively took part in construction and improvement of the church. Thanks to responsiveness of the parishioners and benefactors, poor people can receive a real help here. The church organizes fund raising activities for targeted assistance to parishioners who found themselves in difficult situations.
