The history of the Russian National Library goes back more than 200 years since its foundation. In terms of the value of its collections, it ranks among the world's largest centers preserving cultural heritage. The Russian National Library ensures the preservation of more than 34 million books and documents in other forms, serves about 1.5 million visitors annually, and issues almost 14 million books and other documents.
The National Library of Russia is located in several buildings: at 18 Sadovaya St., 36 Fontanka Embankment, and a new building at 165 Moskovsky Prospekt. The Center's main partners are foreign missions located in St. Petersburg, the largest Russian and foreign libraries, museums, archives, universities, public and cultural organizations, charitable foundations, and state and private companies.
The Library also has exhibition spaces at its disposal. Two exhibition halls (150 and 140 sq. m each) are located in the Main Building of the National Library of Russia at 18 Sadovaya St., and two more halls with a total area of 300 sq. m are in the new building of the Library at 165 Moskovsky Prospekt. The halls are equipped with display cases and there is space for hanging materials. Technical support for events includes sound reinforcement, simultaneous translation, audio recording, video recording, video filming, projection on a large screen from any media in the halls and exhibition areas.
