On Rubinstein Street there is one seemingly unremarkable house, built at the beginning of the XX century.

House 23 on Rubinstein Street was built in 1912 according to the design of A. A. Baryshnikov. The timber merchant Antip Kharitonovich Efremov settled here with his family. Incidentally, his son Ivan Efremov is known to his contemporaries as a Soviet science fiction writer and paleontologist.

Later, in the 1940s, the family of the famous writer Sergei Dovlatov settled in the house. Here, in a cramped room, which today serves as a utility room, the Russian journalist grew up and was inspired until his immigration.

Today, there is not much to see in this remarkable place, because only the fireplace remains from the previous interior. But in 2007, a memorial plaque was installed on the house itself, designed by Alexei Arkhipov.

Admirers of Dovlatov's work often come here to honor the memory of the writer. And some particularly creative readers even depicted a huge typewriter on the wall of a neighboring house.
