58-centimeter sculpture, installed in honor of the tercentenary of St. Petersburg

The sculpture of  the wild rabbit was installed near the Peter and Paul Fortress on 17th of May, 2003, the anniversary year for the city.

There is a legend according to which, one rabbit trying to escape the flood, jumped on the boot of Peter the Great, who was getting off the boat to the island at that moment. To commemorate this event, island was given this name, and just from here the foundation of St. Petersburg began.

The sculpture has also become a particular monument dedicated to St. Petersburg floods.
