The St. Petersburg Documentary Film Studio was founded in 1932. Since 2012, a cultural center has been operating on the studio's premises.

Its history dates back to the early XX century, and its archives contain exclusive footage of the Romanov dynasty, unique photo and video footage of World War II and the siege of Leningrad, as well as all Russian newsreels from 1957 to the present day.

Today, the studio has become a full-fledged creative space, combining a whole range of services related to cinema and cultural leisure:

- A full-fledged operating studio, shooting creative, documentary and commercial videos
- A business center, combining various projects related to film production
- Children's and adult film school
- Open educational lectures on cinema
- A cultural center supporting projects related to cinema and related areas of art
- The first cinematographic TV channel, broadcasting masterpieces of local craftsmen and historical footage of Russian newsreels
- Paid and free screenings of arthouse and documentary films, as well as projects of participants of the local film school
