Granite ball on the spit of Vasilievsky Island

The descents to the water are crowned by two large granite balls, near which newlyweds and tourists especially like to take pictures.
They say that master mason Samson Ksenofontovich Sukhanov cut these geometrically precise spheres by eye, without using any measuring instruments. To ensure a happy and strong marriage, newlyweds break a bottle of champagne on the sphere, thus marking the beginning of their long voyage across the expanses of family life.
