The authors of the monument are sculptor V. E. Gorevoy and architect Zh. M. Verzhbitsky.

The monument was initially erected on June 22, 1994 near the Petrovsky stadium, but later, the following year, the bronze head was stolen. In September 1996, it was found and transferred by the Petrovsky stadium administration to the district administration. Seven years later, a new place was found for the monument, and an original pedestal was made. It was unveiled near the building of the Petrograd district administration on May 16, 2003.

The bust monument is in the form of Peter's head made of bronze and connected to a fragment of a breastplate with a ribbon, which is placed on a narrow and high rectangular granite pedestal. Its height is 200 cm.
