Russian Geographical Society

The building, built specifically for the Russian Geographical Society, has never changed owners since 1908. The society's headquarters never closed for a single day, even during the blockade.
In the autumn of 2010, the House of Geography reopened after restoration. The headquarters of the Russian Geographical Society became more modern, while preserving the special spirit and atmosphere of the historical mansion.
Today, the headquarters of the Russian Geographical Society in St. Petersburg houses a unique library, as well as a scientific archive and the Y. M. Shokalsky Lecture Hall. The historical building of the Society hosts the meetings of the commissions of the St. Petersburg city and Leningrad regional branches of the RGS.
