The house was built by the architect K. Schmidt in 1898 directly for the Faberge family. At that time, it housed one of the best safes in Russia – an armored elevator room.

At night, it was raised to the second floor and kept under current. It was here that Faberge's regular clients brought their valuables for safekeeping during times of turmoil and robberies. The building had workshops equipped with the latest technology, headed by the most talented craftsmen: M. Perkhin, A. Holmström, A. Holming and A. Tileman. On the ground floor there was a jewelry store, and on the upper floor there was an art studio where graduates of the Baron Stieglitz School of Technical Drawing worked. The Faberge firm owned the house on Bolshaya Morskaya, 24 until 1917; now it houses the Yakhont jewelry store, which opened in 1961.
