Museum of Marine knots
Petrovskaya embankment, 2 l Frigate "Blagodat"
The first Museum of Marine Knots in Russia was created by a group of enthusiastic yachtsmen, inspired by the pictures of sea sunsets and sunrises, the singing of the waves under the stem and the wind in the rigging, the books of L. Skryagin, D. Lukhmanov and R. G. Dana, who learned the intricacies of rigging from their own experience.
The scientific director of the museum is a yacht captain with 30 years of experience, A. I. Livshits. The artistic design of the exhibition was made by designer T. Freiberg, a member of the Union of Artists of St. Petersburg.
The exhibition presents more than 60 knots for various purposes, tied on a vegetable rope, examples of marine ropes, rigging tools, as well as unique graphic drawings from books on maritime affairs of the 19th century.
During excursions and master classes, visitors will be told in an entertaining way about the centuries-old history of marine knots and rigging, shown examples of their use in ship rigging, introduced to the traditions and legends of boatswains and captains of the sailing era, and also taught many useful reliable knots that can be used in everyday life.
