The Youth Theatre on Fontanka opened in 1980 and has captivated the audience with its approach: productions here are in the format of confessions and are always devoted to actual themes. The first artistic directors of the theatre were G.A. Tovstonogov's students, Vladimir Afanasievich Malyshitsky and Yefim Mikhailovich Padve.
They erased the boundary between the stage and the hall, thereby making the young actors and the audience closer to each other. The theatre received a new impetus in 1989: the name acquired its modern form, and the lyrics and soft irony that the new director S. Ya. Spivak brought with him were combined with the original traditions. The rigid techniques of dramaturgy were replaced by more confidential intonation.
Nowadays, as well as in past, people are loved, accepted and understood here, and dynamic manner make the audience thoughtful and immerse themselves in the performances. In productions, actors easily talk about complex themes, and at the end of even the “heaviest” performance, the audience will definitely see something bright. People come to the Fontanka Theatre to get improved, in search for goodness and joy.
