The first library in St. Petersburg where a collection of comics and graphic novels of various genres is presented in a separate room.
The center was opened on the basis of the M. Yu. Lermontov Central Library System in December 2012 and is located in the Izmailovskaya Library. The center's goal is to develop comics culture in Russia. The main tasks are to form a comics collection in different languages, hold thematic events and provide readers with services, which includes assistance in comics-related issues.
In addition to the large Russian-language collection, the Library presents comics in foreign languages. A collection of graphic novels and author's comics in English and French. Part of the French-language collection was provided by the French Institute in St. Petersburg. In addition, the library offers comics in German, Finnish, Spanish and Italian, as well as graphic novels in Korean, Thai and Hindi. A huge number of books that clearly show how comics differ in different countries and what imprint the culture of each country leaves on them.
In addition, the Comics Library regularly holds meetings and master classes with artists, where everyone can learn for free about the features of their favorite author's work, his personal approach to creating comics and various drawing techniques. At the master classes, you can apply the acquired knowledge in practice and get the necessary advice. The library has hosted meetings with such comics artists as Yulia Nikitina, Marina Privalova, Victoria Lomasko, Maria Bogatova, as well as artists known under the pseudonyms: Piter Punk, Sideburn004 and many others.
