Monument to cats in Malaya Sadovaya

The
monuments to the male cat Elisey and the female cat Vasilissa are two small
sculptures located on the second floors of buildings at the intersection of
Nevsky Prospekt and Malaya Sadovaya.
The metal-cast figures of tailed creatures steel remind St. Petersburg residents of the cats who saved Leningrad during the blockade. A real invasion of rodents happened in the city, which began to destroy the remaining food supplies and attack the exhausted residents, then cats brought specially from the city of Yaroslavl quickly got rid of the rats and, thus, saved the residents of Leningrad.
