The monuments to the male cat Elisey and the female cat Vasilissa are two small sculptures located on the second floors of buildings at the intersection of Nevsky Prospekt and Malaya Sadovaya.

The metal-cast figures of tailed creatures steel remind St. Petersburg residents of the cats who saved Leningrad during the blockade. A real invasion of rodents happened in the city, which began to destroy the remaining food supplies and attack the exhausted residents, then cats brought specially from the city of Yaroslavl quickly got rid of the rats and, thus, saved the residents of Leningrad.

The cat sculptures were installed in 2000. The first to appear in Malaya Sadovaya was Elisey, Vasilissa joined him a couple of months later. Elisey the cat sits majestically on the ledge of the house where the famous shop of the merchants Eliseev is located, and looks at passers-by. Vasilissa the pussy is watching him from the opposite side. Citizens believe that if one flips a coin so that it falls to the paws of cats and does not fall down, one can find good luck.
