A bronze statue of the great Russian writer on Malaya Konyushennaya Street.

The bronze figure of the famous Russian writer Nikolai Vasilyevich Gogol is installed on a monolithic granite pedestal in the very centre of St. Petersburg – on Malaya Konyushennaya Street.

For the 100th anniversary of the writer’s death, it was decided to create a monument to him. Then, in 1952, the foundation stone for the future monument was laid on Manezhnaya Square. However, the monument was not opened until 45 years later, since none of the projects was ever approved. The bronze figure of the writer was installed on Malaya Konyushennaya Street next to Nevsky Prospect – the place that was so vividly described in the author’s works.

The author of the monument, M.V. Belov, depicted the writer deep in thought, folding his arms. The sculpture is surrounded by four cast lampposts and a wrought lattice. On the pedestal of the monument there is the golden inscription “To Nikolai Vasilyevich Gogol “.
